How to Brew Good Drip Coffee

Prime Roast coffee at the press of a button.

Have you been wondering how to make good drip coffee? We must admit, it’s not the fanciest of brew methods, but it is a convenient and consistent friend on busy mornings or when your in-laws want a cup of decaf after dinner. Yes there are better ways to brew coffee, but with these tips, you’ll be sure to have a great cup of coffee, at the press of a button.

What you’ll need to make drip coffee:

  • Auto-Drip coffee maker
  • Paper Filter
  • Water
  • 1.5 Tablespoons of your favorite Prime Roast Coffee per cup of water (This can be adjusted to fit your taste preference. “Golden Ratio” suggests one to two tablespoons of coffee per 6 ounces of water.)

Time needed: 10 minutes.

How to Brew Good Drip Coffee

  1. Start with a good medium-grind coffee.

Buy exceptionally good coffee. Use a medium grind. Pro tip: The closer you grind your beans to the time of brewing, the fresher the taste.

  2. Filter your water.

Use filtered water. The water you use can greatly affect the taste of your joe.

  3. Be patient.

Refrain from setting up your coffee too early. We know it’s tempting to prep those grounds and water the night before. However, the flavor of the brew will be better if you hold out until morning.

  4. Turn down the heat.

Turn off the heat when done brewing. The longer your coffee stays on the burner, the less wonderful it will taste.

  5. Clean your machine!

Clean your machine once a month. Brew a full pot of cleaning mixture: one part vinegar to two parts water. Finish by brewing a full pot of hot water.

What type of coffee should you use in a drip coffee maker?

It is best to use coffee beans that have been ground to a medium grind in a drip coffee machine. You can browse all of our coffees to find a roast or flavor that best suits your taste. At checkout, just select “Medium (Drip, Paper Filter)” as the grind type, and you’ll have freshly ground coffee ready to be used in your drip coffee pot delivered to your doorstep in no time!

Their beans are excellent, their drinks are tasty, and the baristas are friendly and knowledgeable (we even got excellent hiking tips from ours). For us, the best place for coffee in Keene.
