How to Make French Press Coffee

Have you been wondering how to make french press coffee? How long do you steep the coffee for? How much grounds do you put in the machine? We’re here to help. French presses have been around for awhile and the design hasn’t changed much. Why? Because it works.

What you’ll need to make french press coffee:

  • French Press
  • Coarse Prime Roast coffee grounds (#9 grind on an industrial grinder)
  • Hot water just off the boil

Time needed: 5 minutes.

How to Make French Press Coffee

  1. Rinse beaker with hot water.

Rinse the beaker with hot water to help maintain the temperature while brewing.

  2. Add coffee grounds.

Add one Tablespoon of coarse coffee grounds per one cup of water to the bottom of the french press.

  3. Boil water.

Boil water and then let sit 2-3 minutes after boiling. Ideal temperature is 195-205 degrees Fahrenheit. If the water is too hot it will result in bitter coffee.

  4. Pour hot water.

Pour hot water on top of coffee until all grounds are saturated.

  5. Stir.

Stir gently and let bloom for 30 seconds.

  6. Pour additional water.

Pour additional water and gently place lid on top.

  7. Let steep.

Let coffee steep for four minutes.

  8. Plunge and serve.

Plunge the coffee and then pour and serve immediately!

What type of coffee should you use in a french press?

It is best to use coffee beans that are very coarse in a french press coffee maker. You can browse all of our coffees to find a roast or flavor that best suits your taste. At checkout, just select “Very Coarse (French Press, Perc, Cold Brew)” as the grind type, and you’ll have freshly ground coffee ready to be used in your french press delivered to your doorstep in no time!

Their beans are excellent, their drinks are tasty, and the baristas are friendly and knowledgeable (we even got excellent hiking tips from ours). For us, the best place for coffee in Keene.
